All year round is good although October is incredibly humid and hot in the Victoria Falls area. The ‘Low Water’ period runs between August and January and is at its lowest between November and early December. The best views of the falls at this time will be Devil’s Cataract which is permanent and on the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls. The water levels are not at their lowest in August and September but the Zimbabwean side will still be a better side from which to view the falls over those two months. Low water also comes with other benefits such as activities that can only be done during low water like a visit to Livingstone island and River Rafting.
South Africa and Zimbabwe are included here. For South Africa, you can check entry requirements here: http://www.dha.gov.za/index.php/immigration-services/types-of-visas. Zimbabwe can be interchanged with Zambia however if visa requirements are prohibitive. A “Kaza UNIVisa” can be arranged for both sides so that you can enter two countries in order to see the falls from both sides. (Check if your nationality is eligible here: http://www.kazavisa.info/ ). Individual visas for either Zambia or Zimbabwe if required can also be purchased via respective e-visa portals for each country.
Good advice for Travel in Zimbabwe or Zambia is to make sure that you have US Currency in small denominations (and issue after 2010) for all purchases. Credit card payments are accepted as well for payments at hotels / lodges although it is better to have USD for tipping and for purchases from markets and shops. Many vendors do not accept American Express so it would be better to travel with either Visa or Mastercard. In South Africa, you will only be able to pay in local currency, the South African Rand or by credit card.
Easily customisable to extend or reduce stays in each of the destinations or even change a property to an alternative. Zimbabwe can also be swapped for the Zambian side of Victoria Falls.
Generally safari stays are booked further in advance than your average city or beach destination and so we recommend 6 – 8 months minimum. In addition, many of the properties we recommend are small and exclusive with limited availability.
Payment is required in advance and can be made by credit card or bank transfer. A deposit is required to secure your bookings and the balance is due by 60 days prior to travel.
